Back to Bangkok

We flew into Bangkok last night to find that the Rembrant Towers Apts. did not have our reservation. After much hand wringing we did get a room.

Yesterday morning we visited the Hall of Opium. This is a first class museum that traces the history of opium from ancient times to the present. It shows the good side and dark side of the poppy. The museum was built by the Queen in to the side of a mountain about 10 minutes from the Golden Triangle Resort we were staying at. This museum held the same emotional impact for me that the Holocost Museum had in Washington DC. I think this museum should be a mandatory field trip for every soul in the world. We also visited one of the local villages and I was able to see the weaving pavilione/aka gossip hall, and purchase a few locally made textiles.

The new airport seems to be doing ok as far as we have experienced. The newspapers have told us that the sand used in the cement was inferior and they are also investigating corruption in regards to this. It also seems that the old airport is also going to be used. Right now the airlines are fussing about who goes and who stays. Last weekend was a huge soccer match between Bangkok and Singapore. Thousands of people from Singapore canceled thier reservations because of rumers of a large fight in the stadium. Soccer fans are crazy!

Today we had a followup apt. at the Bumrumgard Hospital. I had a virus and the local health dept. traced the recent cases like I had to recent flights from NYC. Apparatenly, this nasty virus hitched a free ride with several of us passangers and is now getting the Thais sick---ahhhh, the joys and pains of globalism! I have dubbed this virus The NY virus.

After the visit we went to Dick's tailor Jesse and Victor Ragawongse www.DRESS-FOR-SUCCESS.com . They no longer do women's clothing so he sent us to Queen Thai Silk. I got measured for a Thai silk suit. Found out that she is also Barabara Bush's tailor. Quess that is okay. She was in last month for a blue suit from the photos I saw. I go for the fitting when we are in town next week.

No photos today. I did not think I would be stopping by the Internet Cafe and left my flash drive at the room.

Tomorrow morning we will be leaving for Siem Riep Cambodia for a visit to the Ankgor Wat ruins. I am very excited about seeing them. Dick has been there before and is worrying if he will last the 8 hour tour and hundreds of steps. Will keep you posted.
