Goldejn Triangle

It is 8:30 am on Tues Feb 6 which means it is 8:30pm Mon Feb 5 for you. We are exactly 12 hours ahead of EST. Yesterday afternoon we took a boat on the Ruak River-right in front of our camp and motored in a long boat down to the confluence of the Ruak and Mekong Rivers. This is known as the Golden Triangle. This is where Thailand, Mayanmar (Burma) and Laos meet. We had to take our passports with us just in case we strayed somewhere we were not especially wanted. Fortunately we had a very knowledgable female guide, named Darin, that took us to various spots on the Mekong River, and then into the town of Siem Rep. We visited the farmers market, a photo spot of the Rivers coming together, shops and a Buddhist temple. The temple visit was especially lovely. Our guide gave us a lesson in Buddism and then we completed the ritual of making an offering and our prayers, a Buddhist monk gave us a blessing and sprinkled holy water on us and now we know the significance of the candles, incense, offerings, different images of Budda etc.
