These are my Red Hat Society buddies and we had a marvelous outing yesterday. We had afternoon tea and a tour of a new B&B here in Easton called "The Inn at 202".
For those of my readers that don't know about "The Red Hats" just a brief, my version, of the history. Years ago, in the early 1990's, I came across a wonderful book at a discount book store with a wonderful elderly woman done in stitchery. The book was called When I Am An Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple. It was a book of poems and when I read the first entry by Jenny Joseph titled "Warning", I was hooked. The first two stanzas are:
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
Based on this poem a whole organization of budding LOL (Little Ole' Ladies) in training was born and has taken the country, probably the world, by storm. The only rules in this organization are to wear a red hat, and purple clothing when we are on outings. Outings can be most anything that is fun.
So yesterday we all dressed up and had tea at The Inn at 202 Dover St. in Easton. Here is one of our members showing off the Inn's very own Red Hat tea pot. A whole industry is built around collectibles that feature the Red Hat's.
We had a tour of the porches, dining rooms and four bedrooms at the Inn. The Inn also serves dinner and has it's own chef and wait staff. My husband and I met the owners Ron and Shelby Mitchell one evening at the Avalon Theater. After chatting with them during intermission I could not wait to visit their establishment and I was not disappointed. None of us were.
This was my place setting at the tea table. Don't you think the Royal Albert China the the Queen Elizabeth I teapot adorable?
