Old Friend and New

In the advice column in today's Washington Post a distressed reader wrote that her husband recently made contact with an old girlfriend. I guess in that situation the hubby was being a bit secretive. This not a good move. Communication and transparency are necessary for a good marriage. I recently had the opportunity to visit with my old boyfriend and his wife. And that has led to a lovely new friendship between the families.

So here I am standing next to two wonderful people on the bow of the Patriot in the middle of the Miles River (an estuary off the Chesapeake Bay). That is me on the left with the sunglasses and cheesy smile. The fellow in the middle is my old college boyfriend and the lovely lady nestled in his arm is his wife Nadia. Lance and Nadia live and work and have raised a family in Haiti. Nadia is a native of Bahrain.

Lance and Nadia were visiting family in Washington DC and came over to our part of the country a couple of weeks ago. Dick and I gave them the 'standard' tour of St. Michael's--eating crabs at the Crab Claw and a cruise on the Miles River to enjoy the estuary and look at all 'The Somebodies' lush homes. We had wonderful conversation. Nadia and I love crabs and ate a dozen between us. We talked about being Grandmothers (she is going to be one in January), work, kids just everything. We even agreed on the qualities that first attracted us to Lance.

Here is a photo of Dick and Lance. Both men got along really well. Nadia and I have no clue what they talked about because we ran our mouths so much. I know that neither one of them likes crabs.

Dick and I have a standing invite to visit Haiti. Lance and Nadia are always welcome to our home. Nadia and I agree that both Dick and Lance have a knack for finding awesome women. They both are truly wonderful men that have left their footprint on our world and have made it a better place.
