July started out pretty normal. On the 4th of July Laura, Kaitlyn and Laura's friend Emily (Emily esq.-she graduated from law school and is currently studying for the bar in several states) came to St. Michael's to eat some Eastern Shore Crabs and watch the Easton/Talbot 4th of July Fireworks show. It was all very nice. As you can see Gra'MaMa taught Kaitlyn how to eat crabs--she loves them.
Laura was not feeling well.
A handful of days later I was back at the Gra'MaMa post with Ethan, Maya and Kaitlyn. This is the only picture that I managed to get. Chasing a almost 5, almost 3 and almost 2 year old sort of cuts into the Kodak moments with the camera. The cousins love each other very much.
Well, on 13 July my not feeling very well daughter was NOT really feeling well. (Fortunately I had Kaitlyn) and was taken to the hospital and admitted. And it has been Purgatory ever since. First, the docs didn't know what was wrong, then they thought they knew what was wrong, then they didn't know. So she was transferred to a hospital with more equipment and doctors. Bunches of Docs, residents, interns came and looked at her, they ordered every test they could think of. Bad news, surgery, lots of pain, more bad news, more pain, more tests, more doctors, another surgery, more bad news, more docs, interns and residents. Another surgery and stay in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, bad news, good news, bad news and more good news. Transfer to the regular floor. Good news, bad news, a thoracentesis under fluoroscope, good news. Poor Laura is homesick and depressed, family wants her back and are depressed, Kaitlyn misses her mom but she is having fun with her cousins.
Kaitlyn turned 2 on the 3rd of August. We had a mini party at the hospital (Laura was to have her third surgery that afternoon). Kaitlyn was as cute as could be. She carefully opened her gifts and would be wide eyed with delight and whisper ohhhhh, ahhhhhh, ehhhhhh and giggle.
Kaitlyn was able to eat her cake but Mommy had to refrain because of the upcoming surgery. It was a very lovely party. Short, simple and sweet. In my opinion just the right sort of party for a sick mommy and a very cute two year old.
Kaitlyn now tries to hold up two fingers and says "I two!"
Hopefully, Laura will get out of the hospital soon, there will be no more bad news, Kaitlyn and Mommy can be together. The only silver lining I can find in this cloud would be Laura has had some health issues resolved and lost some weight. I can think of less painful and depressing ways to lose weight. As Laura starts the healing process she needs prayers.
