I Am At The Mercy of a Lousy Signal

It has taken me a full 10 minutes from the time I logged on and answered every inane question the ship's computer could ask. Well, now I am here and so aggrivated that I forgot all the good things I wanted to write about.

We had a port stop in Curacao where I went to Mambo Beach for five hours of sunning. Dick stayed on the ship and did laundry. We then went to Aruba where he got off and walked around and I took and Island tour. The main attraction on the Island tour was a chance to see the natural bridge that is featured in post cards. Except, we get there and the guy tells us the natural brindge collapsed in a storm in 2005. But the gift shop is still there and we can see the lava rocks on the beach.

Today we sailed into Cartagena, Columbia. The first thing the guide wanted us to know was how safe Columbia is now under the new president. The gurillas and drug lords have been reduced by 65%. The sky line of the new Cartagena looks like any other big city with skyscrapers. I did a log canoe ride through a Mangrove Canal. This is a natural canal that is not allowed to be cut but the people that live there can push the Mangrove's back by hand ????? I was able to get some nice photos of the kids in the water. Saw red crabs, blue crabs, a heron, jumping fish.

We then went for a walk in the Old Town. Very Spanish, with ornate balconies with flowers and plants on them. We went by the large Catholic Cathederal that was started in the 16th century. Heard some lovely choir music. Our guide said there was a big wedding tonight. An American and a Columbian were getting married and then basically rented most of Old Town to have their reception. He told us they were very rich. We were then ushered into an emerald store where out guide said we would be given complemantary coke and water. We got the hard sell and no drinks. A few folks asked where the drinks were and the bathroom. We all used the bathroom but he only came up with three bottles of a strange strawberry 'light' drink in bottles. I did find a vendor an bought 500g of Columbian coffee and then it was time to go back to the ship. I did get some really nice photos that I can't upload because this computer is not reading SD cards tonight.

The best things i have liked so far are the sunrises and sun sets. Sitting on the balcony sunning and talking to Dick. Looking at all the expensive jewerly in the shops. Watching the shows, listening to the jazz band, listening to the string quartent and watching the comedian/juggler tonight. Tomorrow we have the all day adventure of going throught the Panama Canal. I love to see the big cargo ships and have seen more of them the closer we get to the canal. Dick and I are trying not to gain weight on this trip so we have agreed not to have desserts, more than two starches a day, include lots of fish, veges and fruits. So far so good.
