Easter Weekend 2007

Mother Nature did not play nice with us this Easter. She must be having Demetia or something because she has the seasons mixed up. At Christmas we had record high temperatures (no snow). Easter Sunday we had record cold temperatures and Easter Eve it snowed!

I do want you to notice that I time stamped these photos. This photo was taken Thursday 5 April at 7:16 PM. First, it is terribly wrong to have this much sun at this late an hour at this time of year. Our dear Federal government decided to move Daylight Savings time back a few weeks. I'm not sure I like this.
Secondly, on this evening the temperatures were seasonable pleasant. Somewhere in the high 60's. A languid low pressure system from the south was hugging our coast.

This is a typical sunset in Spring in this part of the world. Right now the sun is setting due west. That means we can sit on our patio and enjoy the sunset instead of peering around our neighbors sunroom (the sun sets further south in the winter and her sunroom blocks our view; but I dearly love my neighbor and get to see the winter sunsets from her sunroom once in awhile).

Now check this out. It is 8:58 the next morning. During the night a very strong cold high pressure system came blustering through. The clash of the titans was a sight to behold. A thunder and lightening storm that beat any 4th of July fireworks. That low pressure system did put up a fuss but was no match for the superior wind power from the northwest! The weather-man called for 2-4 inches of snow but the low pressure system hung around long enough to spare us all but a dusting of snow. Please admire my new River Birch that was just installed by my favorite nursery (kudos to Ken and Victor)

My spring flowers are real troopers. They slightly bent under the weight of the soggy snow. Bravely they held on until the daylight came and melted the snow away. However, the nasty high pressure system kicked the balmy winds to sea and now we are suffering under record cold temperatures for this time of year. This warrior from the northwest blasted the entire east coast from Maine to Florida. He has us under seige for about a week longer I am thinking.
