The New Horse

This little fella joined the three other horses just a few weeks ago. I don't know his name but I do know that he likes my Horse Apple Snacks and he likes his muzzle scratched.

Below is a picture of me slipping treats to the new horse and his pasture buddy Story.

Dick took this photo of me digging in the dirt. Since our house was built on the earth's infrastructure (no soil, just hard clay that breaks a pick ax) I have to buy bags of the stuff in order for my garden to grow.

I probably could have truck loads of soil brought in. However, I like going up to Robin's Nest nursery here in Easton and hanging out with the staff in the landscaping shed. Usually I go up there a couple of times a week and load five bags of soil and as many plants as my little 1999 Plymouth Neon can hold. Us regulars have fun catching up on the latest gossip and swapping gardening hints with the staff.

This is what mostly grows in my yard. I like the little violas and have been transplanting them in other places in the garden. I don't especially want them in the middle of what will be a lawn.
When I sit on the dirt it gets me closer to all the little insects, worms, ladybugs and spiders that populate the soil. Last year I had no earthworms in the garden. In the spot above I found enough big fat juicy worms to fill a can. Now if I can just find the fishing pole!
