It's Raining, It's Pouring......

.....I went to bed, and read and read, got up late this morning.....
All living things in this part of the country desperately needed the soaking rain we received yesterday. What a soaking! The remnants of a tropical storm sauntered up the east coast giving all of us, from Florida to New York ( I don't know anyone in New England, therefore I don't keep up on the weather), a good soaking.

Here are views of the parched yards and horse pasture. It will take a few days for the rain to work it's magic.

The petunias look especially droopy. They are such fragile blooms. After some pruning and a bit of sun they should reward me with tons of blooms.

The calla lilies did much better. I wish they would have longer stems. It would be much easier to put them in a pretty vase and bring them inside.

Anybody have any secrets on how I can get the stalks to grow taller?

I planted 50 strawberry plants as edging around the back and side beds. Yesterday, in the rain, I saw three of the farmers chickens out in my beds enjoying my strawberries. Now, I really don't mind a visitor or two to the strawberry patch. However, I think it would be polite for them to eat the whole berry instead of sampling all of the ripe berries. This is what many of my berries look like this morning.

Big surprise this morning were the squash blossoms and the baby squash that should be ready to eat in a few days.

I am reading a book by Elizabeth Shown Mills, Isles of Canes. Elizabeth is a noted genealogist, educator and writer. So far it is a good read.

I wanted to share my Mother's Day gifts from my daughters. Somehow I did something 'fatal' to the SD card. Can't format it, download photos or anything. I am really mad about this !!#$#%. Laura gave me a beautiful portrait collage of her daughter Kaitlyn. And Kaitlyn's namesake, my other daughter Katie, gave me her portfolio. So how about you clicking on these links to see a sample of her work. Katie is a journalist, photographer and obituary writer for the Delaware State News. Story 1, Story 2.
