Our first stop was to the venerable Crab Claw Restaurant next to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum.
The Crab Claw offers a variety of fresh seafood. It is most famous for it's crabs. So my brave Red Hat sister and I ordered three crabs apiece, dark ale and cole slaw. The rest of the ladies sampled the crab cakes and other fish delicacies offered on the menu
We do have a sister that is assigned to take the official photos of our outings for the scrap book. I am not that photographer. So I just snap up all the unofficial photos like the one here. We are trying to get together for the mandatory group shot at the end of lunch. It is quite an effort to get us to pose, keep our mouths shut for a nanosecond and shoot the photo. So this is what we look like before the official photos.
After lunch we sauntered about 20 paces along the pier to the tour boat "The Patriot". A fellow neighbor at Easton Club East, Larry(IMO he looks quite handsome in his 'naval' togs), took our tickets and we boarded the boat for a one and half hour cruise on the Miles River. It was amazing to see the mansions of "The Somebodies" along the river. These 'somebodies' are mostly politicians and ambassadors from nearby Washington D.C.
Some of the ladies sat port side, some starboard, some stood at the bow and got sun/wind burned and some sat midships. As one said, "This way we can see it all."
Our boat captain played the tape that gives the history of the area but would frequently interrupt with the more exciting things like Blue Herons in flight, duck blinds (he told us of the epic fight between an osprey couple and goose couple fighting for the real estate on a duck blind, interestingly enough the goose family won?),
He also pointed out this osprey nest. If you look earlier in my blog you will see the same nest with the male and female. Now the female is sitting tight on the nest and giving us the 'evil eye', the captain said there has been increased activity at the nest these past few days. However, peer as hard as we could we did not see any hatchlings.
It was a very lovely day and thank you to the two girls that planned this lovely experience.
