Sunday afternoon we boarded the Caribbean Princess and I went immediately to the Spa to book a massage after the boat drills. I always pay close attention to all the safety lectures on any type of transportation. I believe in Murphy's Law and if you invite him to the party at the beginning he will go vex someone else during the event. Works well so far.

Rockin' and Rollin'
We (Dick and I) are somewhere in the Atlantic west of the Leeward Islands on the fringes of the Tropical Storm Noel. The winds are about 40-50 mph and the seas are swelling at about 10-15 ft. This is the week that Dick and I are on our Genealogy Cruise (sponsored by Wholly Genes) aboard the Caribbean Princess. The genealogy part is great.
I have already met Hank Z. Jones and talked to him. He is the fellow that researched the Palatine immigrants of 1709. Of course our Shaffer's were part of that migration.
We left Baltimore in the rain on Sat. afternoon. The ride to Ft. Lauderdale was a bit rocky. Arrived in the rain. Spent the night at the Hyatt Regency in Ft. Lauderdale (click here and take the virtual tour)-the view from our room was lovely--the falling waters tee on the golf course. There were lots of egrets and ducks providing entertaument. Also, the fish in the pond were popping up to catch the low flying insects. In the spirit of the moment I started counting the concentric circles of waves made by the fish. In this, not very scientific survey, I determined that the circles were always an odd number.
We met about 2/3 of the 4oo cruise passengers at the hotel and never lacked for stimulating conversation. The rule is--if you patiently listen to my family stories, I will patiently listen to yours and even ask questions.

Our Capt. (has a sexy Intalian accent) came on the speaker to reassure us that Tropical Storm Noel will not disrupt our vacation. "The ship can travel faster than the storm." Our room is on deck 14 (the ship has 16 decks) so we rock a bit at the higher levels. I find this motion enjoyable, Dick less so. No one seems to be getting sick so far. The skys are full of cumulous clouds and sunshine. It is humid and warm--just perfect in my opinion.
